Like most Thursdays,
today I worked over at my mom's place in the Marina neighborhood of San Francisco.
And like most any such day, I parked about a half mile from the West Oakland
BART station at the Park & Ride lot under the 880 extension, rode my bike
to the station, then took the subway to the Embarcadero station in downtown
San Francisco. Unlike most days, there was a big crowd when I came up into
the plaza, as the Billings High School Symphony was set up on the raised stage
at Justin Herman Plaza, just outside the BART station.
The kids and their chaperones had traveled by bus from Montana, stopping
here and there for concerts and rest, with the goal being the chance to concertize
and touristicize along the golden coast of California. Must be pretty darn
exciting to visit San Francisco from Montana!
I watched for a few moments, but then it was off towards work!!! I love
riding my bike along the Embarcadero, there's always plenty to see and surprises
like the Billings HS Symphony make it all the more interesting.
Somehow I made it back home before sunset (usually it's well after dark
when I get home from work), so I took advantage of the opportunity and shot
a bunch of pictures.
Tonight was just a few days after the new moon, and according to my memory,
supposedly Saturn, Jupiter and Venus would all be visible about the moon soon
after sunset. My photos seem to partly corroborate this - there are two bright
objects near the moon, but when I went looking for links about astronomy
events at this time, I came up cold.
On the other hand, I did turn up some really cool photos of the sun taken
on this day:
And as you can see, I had fun playing around with my sky
photos...hope you like them too!
