When I head outside a little while later they're congregated around the motorhome on yacht club, laughing at the antics of ?Joe Russo's? tiny dog. Hardly 30 folks are here early for the first-in rush -- makes for a mellow scene. First set impressions? Fun, loose, good spacey jams, surprisingly out there for a first set. Nice pair of Dylan covers -- makes me want to hear them dig deeper into that repertoire. Second set was blazing. Lots of good energy tonight. Long and meaty jams. I was particularly surprised with the syntax of the set -- drums and space? whoa! And chasing NFA with Playin' to close? Whoa, they be messing with my expectations. Good to be knocked off balance sometimes. Gotta disrupt the status quo. {{tag>music Phil_Lesh Jason_Crosby John_Kadlecik Joe_Russo Terrapin_Crossroads Jackie_Greene Jordan_Levine}} [[2014#March_events|Back to the calendar!]]
