## Notes

Another great night at TXR with a loose, friendly crowd. Karl Denson and the Tiny Universe were throwing down hard from the get go, and all the boys and girls responded by kicking up their heels and getting down. I thought things fell apart just a little once Phil joined up -- mostly on account of the band seeming to be just a little unfamiliar with the changes. It's not like there were any train wrecks, but the hard edged funk of the first few tunes was replaced with much more tentative one-chord vamping. I suppose that works just as well for booty-shaking, and the players seemed to be smiling and enjoying themselves, but being a picky deadhead, I was kinda disappointed -- it was too loose!

I think the guys must have had a bit of the same feeling, because the second set was really solidly played... a sort of musical apology for the slop at the end of the first.
