## Notes

Benny's mom was present for both sets tonight (and possibly others during the week, for all I know); it was kind of cute to see him looking over at her to make eye contact and mouth a silent "I love you" during the show.

The set was great, and I appreciated arriving early to hear the latter half of the early show over the PA in the noisy SFJAZZ lobby. 

I was a little bummed that Benny omitted playing any Monk tunes tonight, but maybe he scratched that itch earlier in the week, and felt like stretching out. I'd say that most of the songs tonight were right up the hard bop alley. My favorite for the set was _Idle Moments_, a slow-burning late night blues by Duke Pearson, recorded as the title track of Grant Green's 1963 release for Blue Note Records: perfect mood music for a sleepy Sunday night.
