## Notes

I thought tonight's set was superb. Sure, it might have been a little short (wonder how long the late show lasted...), and the stylistic range might have been a bit proscribed, but it was exactly the sort of music that I hoped to hear: "Gateway" for current times!

No explanation was given for Chris Potter's absence tonight (compared to the original advertising that this show would be Dave's "New" Quartet) -- seems kind of sneaky and underhanded to make changes like that and NOT tell the audience. And weird that the SFJAZZ page for the show was updated to remove Chris' from the description, but they left his face up in the pictures.

Dave Pehling posted a nice [promo piece](http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2018/03/20/bass-maestro-holds-forth-at-sfjazz-center/) about Dave's run of shows on the local CBS website... and gets things right as far as mentioning that tonight's show is going to be a power trio gig instead of the originally advertised "New Quartet" with Chris Potter.

Similarly, Andrew Gilbert published an [interview](https://www.kqed.org/arts/13827359/bass-conversations-with-dave-holland) with Dave for KQED Arts that also omits mention of CP, so it's not like it was a last-second change. 

I'm gonna call a party foul on SFJAZZ: bait-and-switch? Not quite, but perilously close!
