Chick's only solo performance of the year, tonight was one of those great shows that's hard to really classify. Presented without amplification of the piano, I'm *really* glad that I had a seat up close in the second row -- all the better to focus on the magic-making in front of me! The pairing of classical and jazz/popular pieces in the first half was really cool ... even if Monk didn't make it onto the list (awww, I feel cheated!). And the playfulness of the second half was something really rare ... I don't recall ever seeing something like that at a show before. Did it work? Well yeah, well enough! Hopefully the show was a big enough success that they'll bring him back next year for a reprise gig! Back to the previous event! ☸ Up to the 2019 yearbox! ☸ Up to the 2019 event list! ☸ On to the next event!
