# Taurus Mateen: jazz hands And apropos of nothing else, I wanted to post a link to a [most excellent article](http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/03/11/130311fa_fact_wilkinson#ixzz2MaVsLCVL): "Jazz Hands," a piece about Jason Moran, that I read (on actual paper) earlier today (March 14, 2013), but the _New Yorker_ seems to think you should pay to read the whole thing online. I suppose a dollar isn't that much to ask... My favorite part of the article is this excerpt from an extended quote by Taurus Mateen, the bass player in Moran's group, Bandwagon: We don't jump completely out of the music every time, but we hope that will happen. When it does, you are just this human body that music is coming through, and your fingers are moving. Once it's in that realm, you can try to do wrong, and it won't happen. ---- [Back to the Meditations collection](meditations)
