Notes

Well I'm very happy that I was able to see tonight's show, and jealous that Ting gets to go tomorrow too, but them's the breaks when you try and put too many pieces of fun stuff onto your plate.

It was beastly hot (“yeah right”, snort all the southerners) in SF today, made worse by the incessant racket of the guys doing sewer repair and street maintenance at the corner, half a block away. After riding my bike down the hill from home to BART in the morning, my plan for the evening was to hop on a northbound MTA bus in the afternoon, then hop off at the San Rafael transit center and ride to TXR. Worked great, except that the buses arriving at my pickup stop on Lombard at Fillmore seemed to have no relation to the schedule info I'd looked up on 511.org – a subject for future research! In any event, it was a case of no harm, no foul, as I got to the venue early enough to stash my bike gear in Ting's trunk and change my shoes before heading into the gig.

The line scene tonight was remarkably mellow. Matter a fact, the whole night was like that. Low key! Reminds me why I liked it so much when I first moved up here from socal! That take it easy no hurry no worries vibe is a happy antidote to the usual stresses of the day. This carried over to the scene inside as well. No pushing or shoving or squabbling over space – much nicer than Chris' earlier appearances here about a year ago.

And the show was great! Maybe not all that different compared to sets from his runs at GAMH in 2012 and 2013, but solid fun. It's nice to recognize an introductory noodle and know that a favorite tune is coming up next. And it's equally nice to be surprised with something new. I wish I'd been able to see the following night's show (Phil sat in for the entire second set), but I'm also happy with what I got!
