Notes

First off, big props to Mark Kraitchman for being on the ball and sending me the setlist first thing in the morning on Friday – way easier to read his email than the chicken-scratch notes I took in the dark last night!

The opening tune, Find the Groove saw Edward Simon, David Sánchez and Miguel Zenón all on percussion at the start: way cool! About two minutes in, ES switches to piano; David switches to tenor about seven minutes in; and I neglected to pay attention to when Miguel switched to alto – must have been distracted by that groove!

I found this show to be really quite rewarding; if I'd heard in advance that they were going to be doing A and B setlists on successive nights I probably would have made plans to go back tonight or Sunday, but at this point my calendar is all filled in, so I'll have to rely on someone else to tell me what I missed. Or maybe SFJAZZ will release a CD compilation like they've done with other years… yeah, I bet that's in the works! I'm looking forward to buying it already!
