Notes

It's a cryin' shame that the hall wasn't sold out this afternoon, but I suppose some folks that would argue that 80-90% full for a Sunday matinee centered on a non-Grammy-winning album from 1999 is darn good. I dunno. I was psyched to be there!

It was kinda wild seeing how Reginald Veal swapped instruments on nearly every song – guess he was searching for some very particular tonal nuances. It's funny, though I've seen him lots of times, I don't remember him playing anything other than contrabass before. Must not have been the right context.

This was also the first time I remember seeing Romero Lubambo play electric guitar. During his duet with Dianne on Bridges, I could hear him playing string synth – presumably with his foot pedals, or by midi, actuated by his guitar feed – but I couldn't really see well enough to know for sure how he managed the trick: he was darn subtle about it!

It was cool that Dianne got the whole house singing along with her finale … a so-called Hum-chi melody that even got a few folks up and dancing. Sometimes you gotta listen to the call to participate!
