It's clear these guys were out to have a good time from the get go … another one of those shows where I really shoulda oughtta boughtta pair of tix to the late show too. Hard to know in advance, but now that I'm hip I'll try to avoid making the same mistake in the future!

While introducing the band, DL told us that this was Grant Schroff's first gig with the band. Dang! I'm gonna assert that no one would have guessed that – the trio seemed locked in tight together for every tune… except when they were obviously fooling around or messing with each other (which was just as fun to watch and listen to as the deep greasy grooves that made up most of the show).

I'm sure I missed a few other teases; maybe someday SFJAZZ will post audio or video of the show to let us all revisit tonight!
