I was really pleased with tonight's show, as to my ears it was much more effective at bringing the spirit of the Grateful Dead to a classical environment than earlier efforts such as Dead Symphony and Weir's gig up in Marin last year. Hard to say exactly why that's my impression. It could be that tonight was more of a pops effort … with the orchestra offering musical decoration behind the efforts of the band up front. It could be that the orchestrations were more straight and less abstract. I dunnno. Maybe if I sat and listened to the various efforts again I'd change my tune, but for now, I'll conclude by saying that it was a really fun night!
