Notes

Happily, tonight's show exceeded my expectations in pretty much every category – I'm a happy camper! Scott's cover of the Jagger/Richards classic, Factory Girl, early in the set was a nice treat, if not totally unexpected, seeing as he recorded it for his 2012 EP CD, Scott Law Reunion Band.

And the subsequent run of tunes was masterfully delivered, with excellent interplay between the performers. Standing next to one another, Ross and Scott were naturally positioned to swap riffs back and forth, and it was great fun to watch them as they egged each other on throughout the show. Grahame continues to step up his game, and more than once caught my attention with an ear-catching lick or an inspiring solo.

The Viola Lee Blues sandwich in the second half of the set didn't come off quite as polished, no doubt in part due to the insertion of two newer tunes, but possibly also by plan, as it seemed to me that two of the out jams were steered into noise and chaos: fun for a change, if not the sort of squealing and howling that I want to hear every night!

Mystery Train was a real hoot – and it coulda been stretched out even longer if they'd been willing to spin those clattering train wheels round the tracks again – wouldn't have bothered me in the least!

Closing the show by encoring with Help

>> _Slip_ >> _Tangled_ was also pretty cool, and even if they muffed the "eye of the needle" transition a little, the guys deserve credit for daring to tweak orthodoxy by splitting _Franklin's Tower_ off from it's typical place in that run of tunes.

As it was still kinda early when the main act bowed out, we rambled over to the bar for an extended nightcap with the Tea Leaf Trio. If I was paying more attention, I probably could have kept a setlist, but walking in late, I didn't really feel all that motivated. My dim recollection is that they covered at least two Paul Simon tunes, America and another relatively early one, but I was more interested in just relaxing on the starways and nursing my Reality Czech.
