Notes

Snuck out of work a little early in order to try and squeeze this Moonalice set in before my later show at the symphony. Lucked out and timed traffic just right, pulling onto Geary at the corner off the square at 5:56 PM – perfect for grabbing a loading zone spot that becomes legal at 6 PM! Waited a moment or three, then dashed across the street, just in time to hear the end of Big Steve's band introduction.

Although it had been a nice day today, it was surprisingly cool in the park, thanks to the wind pushing fog in from the sea, and I was really glad to be dressed in my warm symphony clothes instead of the shorts that I wore earlier in the day. There seemed to be fewer folks at today's event than the one I attended here last year, and fewer friends too.

I set myself up more or less exactly dead center, just in front of the big planter/statue demarking the center of the square. Sound here was darn good, being pretty close to the soundboard, but not as loud and engaging as it was up in front by the PA.

New to me this time out was the big video wall behind the band. At about 8 ft by 20', it was hard to ignore, especially when the display got extra swirly and psychedelic; my pictures fail to do justice to it – it was truly hypnotic to watch!

As far as the performance and setlist goes, I regret to say that I was mildly disappointed. The covers were fun, but the originals failed to keep my interest. Maybe it was the distraction of the cold? I dunno. Could just be that Pete and Roger aren't that strong singers!

Unfortunately I had to leave a little before the ending climax in order to get over to the symphony. Who knows, maybe that part would have swayed my opinion for the positive. Anyways, it was fun to see friends, and to groove to the tunes that moved me, and I'm extra grateful to my buddy Arthur for grabbing a fine purple poster for me in my absence!

Thanks to Roger, you can listen or watch this show online via the Moonalice website.
