Notes

We arrive a bit late, dang! Missed the start of the gig by a few minutes. Oh well. Can't always get the traffic situation to roll your way.

What a fun show it was tonight, I'm really glad we were able to pick up tickets, and regret that we couldn't squeeze in any of the other nights against our crowded schedule. I was a little surprised to hear that the band was already playing when we walked up, but relieved when Liz told us “first song” as she gave us our wrist bands and crossed of us the entry list. Said quick hellos to Bob and Anne Minken at the door – Bob was hawking his latest book of photos – a killer compilation of 30+ years of effort – and then we danced inside and onto the floor, gliding like spirits into our places front and center. Not quite front-most, as you might guess, but good enough for me!

Tonight's setlist featured a nice blend of classics from the 1974-75 Legion of Mary (as immortalized on Keystone Companions and numerous enthusiast recordings), as well as a sprinkling of classic Grateful Dead tunes and favorites from the Kimock-Vega repertoire. I was a little surprised at the presence of the Dead covers – why not more from Legion of Mary? – but maybe that's a consequence of filling three consecutive shows differently (be nice to find setlist links for Fri and Sat … none posted so far that I could find).

Bobby Vega was his bouncy funky bad-ass self, and it was really interesting to see him trading riffs with Kimock again. Makes me sad that the days of seeing them play together regularly seem to be long gone.
