Notes

I was happy to get the whole band tonight, as opposed to the reduced ensemble that visited earlier in the year. Ting and I had arrived early, hoping to score seats at the back of the flour, but that wasn't an option this time around, so instead we took a spot on the rail, front and center. As showtime approached it got quite crowded, what with latecomers smashing in through the cracks, but fisticuffs were averted after an exchange of ugly looks and curt words. It's a cryin' shame that some folks seem to interpret GA as an excuse to put aside basic courtesy; good thing that we're well versed in GA etiquette!

Once the music started, it took me a few songs to wrap my brain around the dislocation between the direct sound of the horns, drums and stage amps contrasted with the blended sound from the PA hanging overhead, but once I managed to integrate things, the weird sound stopped bothering me. Free your mind and your ass will follow as Dr. Funkenstein always said!

Tom remarked after the show that they were playing funk lite, but I think they pulled off the gig quite well, and I look forward to checking in with them in the future. Doesn't matter to me whether the musicians look like Funkateers from another planet or post docs from a tech school, these boys are definitely putting a lot of heart into their music, and enjoying themselves while they're at it! BRAVO!
