Notes

It's a tough slog to get out of bed and get crackin' this morning. The coffee wasn't doing it's usual thing. Had to send last-minute regrets to friends throwing pre-show parties – it was going to be hard enough to get down to Santa Clara in time for the show. Sigh. Life in the fast lane is no place for old folks!

We pick up Mark around 2 PM, then shoot down 880 in light traffic, parking at the I-880/Milpitas Park-n-Ride, which alleges to offer easy, car-free access to Levi's Stadium via the Alum Rock line. We wait a bit for the Light Rail car to arrive – seems a little cooler today, this is good! The train arrives, then takes us only partway to the venue, stopping at Tasman where we find hundreds of other heads waiting for the Mountain View train that will take us a few more stops. Uh-oh. After a few minutes, several VTA coach buses pull up, and helpful staff herd us carefully across the street from the light rail station to board the buses. Multi-mode transport, yeah! But the buses are aiming south on Tasman, so instead of turning around and heading directly back to the stadium, we circle around the long way … at least three times farther, with plenty of traffic to boot. So much for efficiency. Eventually the bus dumps us off at the far northwest corner of the stadium parking lots, and we proceed to hike across the asphault wasteland – free of cars, for the moment – aiming for Gate A – entry to the promised land!

After a brief wait, the entry gates are opened and we charge forward! Today we enter more directly to the floor than yesterday, but it doesn't seem to help all that much in terms of avoiding competition from other eager fans – the rail spots are all taken by the time we get in, rats! Happily, our buddy Henry offers a bit of prime space towards the central corner of the non-pit GA section, so we are rescued on that count. I spread our blanket about 15 feet back where the floor is still open, then proceed to laze about, lying on my back watching clouds blow across the sky, visiting with our neighbors, and looking for recruits who might appreciate sharing space.

The show is fun, and the scene is quite a bit less crazy than last night – must be the mellow Sunday crowd! The setlist isn't quite as exciting as last night's surprise, but the show is well-played, and encoring with Brokedown Palace is exactly the right thing to do. Thanks guys!
