Notes

Heavy traffic – typical Friday! – driving over from the Marina today, and a surprisingly tough time finding an open parking spot. Lucked out before I got too far away; hopefully it won't be raining too hard when we walk back in an hour or so. Entered the SFJAZZ lobby to find Ting already waiting at the head of the line. Yay!

Melissa's set was short but sweet. Friday the 13th was a killer opener – got me engaged right away, despite how tired I was. But being tired, I had a hard time focusing, and when she got around to explaining things mid-set, I lost track of her words. So maybe there's a missing tune title in there as shown, or maybe there's only one tune, Optimism, and what's new was the saxophone introduction that she played first. I recognized the following tune as a standard, but couldn't summon the title, so for the moment, that one remains unidentified too.

And while Melissa introduced the band several times during the set, I didn't catch the drummer's name even once. It always sounded like (mumble mumble) to me, once she got there. Kinda frustrating, especially since I can't seem to find anything on the internet about her changing drummers, but that's just how the cookie crumbles right now: another mystery to be resolved later!
