Notes

A fun night at Zellerbach with a show thrown together from diverse musical elements. Creole? Carnival? globalFEST? OK, whatever. An excuse to send a bunch of talented unknowns on tour across Canada and the USA. Tonight was the last show of the tour, and everyone seems to have been in high spirits – must have been a pretty good time for all involved!

Each of the acts was fun to hear, and the continuous mini-set format forced them to concentrate on their strongest material (probably a good thing!).

After the show, Cal Performances treated us to finger food, wine and dessert bites in the upstairs lobby. A bunch of the performers appeared, but this part of the affair was rather disorganized (no hot water at the tea station, nor any cream to go with the coffee until I made an inquiry – what, as if cream an unusual thing to expect with coffee!?), and we didn't get much of a chance to mingle or slap hands. A missed opportunity, perhaps, though being multilingual (in French or Portuguese) probably would have been helpful…
