Notes

Crazy crowded on the Bay Bridge driving over to SF this afternoon; sigh; more wasted time!

Fractured family dinner @ 3543; yummy take out from Tacolicious, but the Starsiak's couldn't join us… Too many other obligations.

I thought the documentary was a sad movie … It seemed to me that Amy was unlucky enough to be surrounded by folks who treated her like the golden goose. It's too bad she didn't have stronger friends to help defend her against the wolves that surrounded her.

The live performance party of the night was fun! Martin Luther brought some of that sexy Marvin Gaye swing to his covers, and capped off his set with an extra special wedding-proposal song that has folks crying, hooting and clapping for joy. Congratulations to Martin Luther and his bride-to-be; true love is rare and precious find!

Diana Gameros set started a little more jazzy with a vibraphone/guitar duet on Amy's October Song, then continued along that feel with excellent contributions from Patrick Wolff on reeds and Thomas Edler with the walking bass.

Closing things out, Midtown Social took us back to the old school funk, anchored by fatback bass from Sarah Rice and that chink a chunk guitar chiming of Rory Matthews. It's too bad that most of the crowd wasn't up for dancing tonight… These folks were laying down righteously groovy beats: just the thing for a Saturday night social!

Nice that many of the musicians appeared in the lobby after the show; if I'd been feeling less tired, it would have been nice to hang out and chit chat, but we opted to skip out instead: you can't always be the last ones in the house when the party ends!
