Notes

Typical heavy Sunday morning West bound traffic impedes our trip to TXR, but we still arrive early enough to get a parking spot on Yacht Club Drive and hop into the will call line while there's fewer than 20 folks hanging out. The entry line eventually starts moving, and despite a snafu with the printout that delays our side compared with the A-L line, we nonetheless manage to get a prime spot on the rail just inside the stage right PA. Of course it's about a million billion degrees out here in the sun, so we immediately decamp to the shade to wait out the hour or so before show time. No point in getting baked too soon!

Ting is hungry, and after a foraging run, decides to try the Philly Cheese Steak. Turns out to be a poor choice. Rather, a poor choice if you have any idea what a Philly Cheese Steak ought to be like. Cuz this wasn't it. Sweet bread bun? Velveeta? No grilled onions or sautéed peppers? Whatever sandwich that was, it was NOT a Philly Cheese Steak. But Ting is hungry, so it's gone in a flash!

Achilles Wheel puts on a great opening set. We've seen them in other permutations, but I think this is our first experience with the full band, and I like it. Would have been nice to have the vocals just a little higher in the mix (the better to make out the words), but if the trade-off means a little less guitar, maybe the mix was already perfect! Closing the set with a romp through Los Lobos' Evangeline was a pretty good choice: there was plenty of twirling going on for that one! Don't think I'll be heading out on tour, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing them again soon.
