Notes

Given the theme of the night, I was expecting a set composed of many short pieces, so I was really surprised after about an hour to hear Regina mention that we'd arrived at the final song of the set, and to look back and see that I'd only written down a half-dozen titles. Could I have fallen asleep and missed something? I suppose it's possible, but I don't remember snoozing tonight….

The closing tune – the sole piece of the night not part of Ella Fitzgerald's repertoire – was a lengthy suite by Alvester Garnett, and included a fine discursion into When The Saints Go Marchin' In. Good stuff there!

I was mildly disappointed that we didn't get an encore, but as with a few other shows I've attended recently, when it's clear that the audience isn't clamoring for more, it shouldn't be a surprise when you don't get anything extra!
