## Notes

I grab dinner in a box -- a sandwich from Starbucks -- when my trip to Montclair Village turns out to be a bust: the eye doctor takes Monday off, who'd have thunk? Make the best of the situation right? Then try not to get too riled up over traffic clogging Hwy 13 (commuters heading to Orinda and beyond) on my trip to Cal for a little YMD practice before the show. Shower, wash hair,  race-walk to the car, then street-race! to West Oakland BART. Luck out and snag a spot proximate to the entrance, then race to meet a 10-car train arriving at the same time. Yeah! no wait! Arrive in SF shortly thereafter and resume race-walking (to beat the crosswalk timers), aiming to maximize my visit to Beer Hall. Which is quite crowded, but has a bar stool open for me, so I sidle in and settle into a tremendously tasty Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock. Sehr gut mein freund! As I sip my beer and eat my sandwich, I am a _very_ happy camper. Soon, however, I am deliberating  whether or not I can enjoy that second pint before it's time to go. The decision-making swings forth and back, and no sooner do I decide, than the bartender pops up to offer me a last chance, so I respond affirmatively, and soon enough a 12 oz snifter of Alesmith Speedway Stout, a *STRONG*, 12% ABV imperial stout appears before me. Strangely, the stout is not nearly as drinkable as the Celebrator, as the high alcohol content burns through the charred malty goodness, leaving a rather cloyingly sweet aftertaste on my palate. Maybe I should have opted for one of the double IPA's instead! In any case, I quaff! The stout is consumed, but it won't be ordered again!

Having drained the glass, I hustle out and over to SFJAZZ for tonight's show. Entering the hall, I encounter a giant, confused clusterf#@k at the main entrance to the floor, so I head up the stairs to the back entrance by the soundboard, then down to my seat in row F. Easy peasey -- and a late start -- means that my
