## Notes

I suppose the safe thing to say is that this show met my expectations. I knew that it would be more pop than rock or jazz, and that the balcony would be a superior spot for observing the show, and so the event unfolded in accordance with that advance research. I was a little surprised by the stage decoration -- several large pieces of abstract art that Caetano stopped to contemplate now and then throughout the show. Was this an indication that we too should engage the works that way? My confusion probably would have been lessened if I understood enough Portuguese to follow Caetano's banter, but being a typically uncultured dunce of an American, it all sailed over my head in a wash of vowels and soft consonants.

All in all, it was a fun gig, though I'll probably let a few years pass before seeing him again, as the musical substance of the show didn't quite grab me enough to make me more enthusiastic.
