Per program notes on the Third Coast Percussion website, _Please Be Still_ is a new work in which composer Jlin remixed a portion of Bach’s Mass in B Minor. Her rework of Bach’s music was then arranged for percussion ensemble by Third Coast Percussion. Jessie Montgomery's _Lady Justice_ was commissioned by the Zell Family Foundation, Carnegie Hall, Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa, and Stanford Live, Stanford University. And finally, Tigran Hamasyan's three-movement _Sonata for Percussion_ was commissioned by Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting and the Zell Family Foundation. Jessie Montgomery's _In Color_ was composed in 2014 for tuba and string quartet. For tonight's concert, we heard three of the five movements, rearranged by TCP. Surprisingly, Montgomery's [list of works](https://www.jessiemontgomery.com/works/) omits both pieces that appear on tonight's program. Her [older site](https://jessie-montgomery.squarespace.com/works#block-yui_3_17_2_1_1584622223362_13337) lists the original version of_In Color_ and offers an additional brief [program note](https://jessie-montgomery.squarespace.com/s/Program-Notes-In-Color.docx) about the piece. You can watch and hear the full thirteen minute suite in an undated performance posted on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUihrJZePUk) by Advent Lutheran Church in NYC. Music geeks will also appreciate the [YouTube score-video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOTZDXxRtkA) of Lou Harrison's Concerto for Violin with Percussion Orchestra. While this piece was originally written for five percussionists, somehow TCP made do with one less. Tom Jacobs posted a [promo article](https://www.sfcv.org/articles/artist-spotlight/jessie-montgomery-composer-who-craves-connection) for this show drawn from an interview with Jessie Montgomery at SFCV. **Whoa!** This section is incomplete for now, sorry! [Program Notes](externalURL) or Back to the previous event! ☸ Up to the 2025 yearbox! ☸ Up to the 2025 event list! ☸ On to the next event!
