Notes

Nice first set, though I can't say I recognized any of the tunes – another gap to fill in my musical education. Given the instrumentation, I felt like they ran through a good variety of styles. I certainly didn't expect to hear any any Rockajama jawabilly tunes tonight. In fact, I have to admit that to my best recollection, this is the first time I've ever heard jawabilly. Hope Carl Perkins is smiling down up there in Heaven!

The second set offered more of the same: playing tunes, joking and talking story. This set worked a little better for me – maybe because it was a trifle longer? – except that Henry threw in a long medley segment. I've always found medleys to be irritating. You get a few moments to recognize a tune, then it morphs into something else. Except as late night TV ad promotional device (remember these hits?), I don't see how any fan could possibly be happy that they got to hear 10 or 20 seconds of a favorite tune. Yeah. Well, I'm obviously ranting a bit too much, my apologies! Anyways, Sitting in Limbo and Danny's Song were my favorites, achieving that status by being the only tunes I recognized. Does that make me a reactionary conservative listener? I hope not! Coconut Girl was pretty fun too!

Will I see the guys if they visit California? Sure, why not? Just gotta hope for an open night in the schedule and a friendly venue at the right price!
