Notes

Tonight's show was a nice diversion from the surrounding Dead & Company shows – or really, a chance to enjoy nostalgia of an entirely different flavor. Maceo certainly has a crack band, and they can lay down a ferocious groove when they want to, but I felt like he spent entirely too long reminiscing about the past (talking to the crowd), and not enough time actually playing. At 76 years old, he's more than earned the entitlement to hold court and celebrate the good old days, yet I would still rather hear him blow his horn than to repeat stories that have become part of his shtick. Guess that's a sign that I need to lay out on his next pass through tune to juice up my personal jones for his brand of funk.

Candy Dulfer is a great addition to the band – good for a strong dose of youthful vigor! I would have liked her to spend more time onstage, but ya gotta takes what ya gets!
