Notes

Lots of traffic out there today – huge change from Monday's trip to TXR – but we left early enough to get to Fairfax without any hassle beyond self-induced stress.

Tripped up by the weather forecasting again: spot temperature check gave 80 F in Fairfax while we were getting ready to leave, but it's no more than 70 by the time we arrive: cold foggy air swirling around Mt. Tam has given the day a crisp fall feeling. Good thing we brought layers! It feels even colder once shadows envelope the garden. Maybe that played a factor in the set ending earlier than we expected: neither Elliott nor Scott were dressed for colder weather, and it can't be all that fun playing guitar once your hands get cold.

Despite the relative brevity of the show, I'm glad we could attend: it's a treat to be part of the Deadheadland “studio” audience. Interestingly, Scott streamed an alternate version of the show via his iphone to Instagram live.

As both performers remarked, today was their first ever duo outing, and I thought it went really well. Today's take on It Hurts me Too was pretty cool, as the two sang it back and forth as sort of a lover's spat song instead of the usual blues. Hickory Wind was my favorite tune from the set: gotta love Gram Parsons! Hopefully they'll reprise this pairing at a future date!
