Notes

ALO really blew the roof off tonight, wow, what a show!!

We lucked out and made the transition from Dom's party in Los Altos to the Fillmore in SF with an absolute minimum hassle except for security seizing my empty plastic water bottle in the search at the door. It's friggin' idiotic that they do shit like that, but what can you do when the mooks have you in their claws? Heading up the stairs, the hall was vibrating with excitement from the sold-out house. We wiggled this way and that, and soon enough emerged in my preferred spot: dead center, about 10' back from the stage. As it was packed tight, a few of our new neighbors were slightly annoyed by our arrival, but seeing as other folks in the vicinity were happy to hear us, no one got too grumpy about it. Let's give three cheers for the lovers in the crowd!

The first set was great, and while the crowd crush made it almost impossible to dance hard, there was plenty of room for bopping inside my head. Happily, things eased up as the set wore on: I'm guessing that the less gonzo fans realized there was no reason to press forward, and that dancing in the back or on the sides was a better way to celebrate than shimmying in place like a worm on a hook.

At set break I made the rookie error of standing the whole time – even after space opened up for sitting – and compounded that by failing to go get water. Dumb dumb dumb. So I suffered a bit of dry mouth until the show ended and I remembered that there was water at the bar. Like I said: dumb dumb dumb!

Sit-ins? Ron Artis: double plus good! Touch of Grey: overcrowded!
