Notes

PG&E power outages in the SOMA & Civic Center around 5 PM did a real number on traffic: what would normally be a short trip took us over an hour because every intersection was a stop-and-go nightmare. Over twenty minutes for us to go the last mile to the venue: we could have walked there faster!

In any case, we arrived at SFJAZZ only to find out that they weren't letting anyone in, and didn't have any idea when power was going to be back. Oh that's just great! Now we're stuck in SF! Happily, when we parked, I'd noticed that RT Rotisserie was still running (they still had power, presumably because they're right next door to SF Fire Station #36), so we walked back there to get a quick dinner. Thirty to 45 minutes later, the traffic lights were powered up again, so we returned to SFJAZZ.

Power was now on, but they still weren't letting anybody in, so there was a huge crowd gathered around the corner and spilling onto Fell Street. Around 7:05 PM an SFJAZZ staffer announced that folks attending the NTB show should come around to the Franklin street entrance, so we hustled around the corner and inside, where they queued us up, checked our tickets, and then made us wait another 10 minutes before opening the house. Such confusion! It was obvious that the house wasn't prepared for this sort of problem!!

Anyways, my only complaint was that we missed the start of Chameleon, but without any sort of formal start to the event on account of the power outage, that's not even small potatoes. Props to N.T.B. for rolling with the punches and putting on a good show!
