Several of the core tunes were presented in radically reworked versions. _Jack-a-Roe_ was played at a fast tempo -- rather like recent iterations of _Cumberland Blues_, and Ross' delivery was more sprachsang than singspiel (something Ting really didn't like). Several of the core tunes were presented in radically reworked versions. _Jack-a-Roe_ was played at a fast tempo -- rather like recent iterations of _Cumberland Blues_, and Ross' delivery was more sprachsang than singspiel (something Ting really didn't like).

-The opening jam before Eyes (Erik Satie's _Gymnopedie #1_ according to the printed set list)sounded a lot like a mutation of the great Eyes jams of 1974. Very interesting! Easily my favorite section of the set, though _Shakedown on 9th St_ comes in as a strong second -- thoroughly rockin', that one!!+The opening jam before Eyes (Erik Satie's _Gymnopedie No. 1_ according to the printed set list) sounded a lot like a mutation of the great Eyes jams of 1974.  Closing the show with _NFA_ and encoring _Bird Song_ was also nice -- good to get back to the core repertoire after trying out so many newish pieces earlier in the night. All in all, quite satisfactory for a Friday night! Closing the show with _NFA_ and encoring _Bird Song_ was also nice -- good to get back to the core repertoire after trying out so many newish pieces earlier in the night.
