Hot, hard, intense man on man action? Yeah, must be the East Coast Allstars (AKA almost Joe Russo's Almost Dead) in town tonight…

It's funny to compare the wild east coast energy with the mellow west coast vibe. I find the chance to hear the east coast style refreshing now and then, but prefer the mellow – that's why I live here instead of there! It was near to notice that despite the propensity for pushing things louder and faster, the band also had enough feel for the music to know when to dial it back and play quietly, or tenderly, or with pathos, as called for by the particular tune. This was probably best exhibited by Let It Grow, as they avoided playing any of the really slow Jerry ballads tonight. Hard to recall other examples at this point, almost two months later.

Anyways, I'm glad I attended, and write happy to have gotten a full show instead of the abbreviated set delivered over in Golden Gate Park this past weekend as part of HSB14. I hear that this band also played a weekend back at the Capitol Theatre in November, probably ought to see if those are up on the archive for listening.
