Notes

Originally billed as including Patti Austin and Terence Blanchard … instead we get Raul Midón and Nicholas Payton. Interesting swap!

Nicholas Payton's tune Six was my favorite for the night. With a soft Grove and a recognizable repeating riff, it was a great way to start off the night.

The following track, Gerald Clayton's Envisioning, was cool and spacy – a nice contrast to the busy beat established by Six.

The test of the show was fun enough, I'll refrain from continuing my tune by tune commentary. I enjoyed the show quite a bit, and I hope the rest of the crowd did too, as they seemed a bit reserved to me… Not willing to put their hands together to acknowledge the virtuosity on display tonight. Guess that's just what you get for Sunday night turnout in Berkeley!
