Notes

After enjoying a relaxed time with Nicki Bluhm and Friends over at the Back Porch Stage, we moseyed back in to the bar to hang out with friends and grab dinner before the Cubensis gig. Stu Allen was enjoying a cocktail at the bar next to our friends Arthur and Sherril, so we stopped to talk. Ting gave him shit for entertaining the notion that having a drink before driving home was a good idea; I believe Stu's rejoinder was that it was just a little nip before hitting the road.

A few minutes later another friend saw us and invited us to share her table – score!! Always nice to get a seat and a view in the bar, and for that, we owe Allison BIG TIME thanks! It was fun hanging out with her and the other visiting peeps, especially Jennifer Webb, even if a rocking show in a bar isn't necessarily the best place for a friendly conversation. Things were pretty darn crowded tonight; I'm guessing that word was out about Cubensis, and I'm sure that bringing a caravan of pals up from southern California for the weekend didn't hurt either. I had a funny incident with ?Sandra? or ?Stella? from So Cal, who absolutely insisted that I was the spitting image of one of her friends from way back when. While I couldn't really spot the resemblance in the teensy picture she pulled up on Facebook, I played along as best I could. Better not to argue with someone wearing beer goggles, right? Would have been even more fun if her friend was actually present – I was looking forward to meeting my doppelgänger!

Anyways, Ting and I both ran out of juice early tonight, so we decided to bail out in the middle of the second set instead of holding on until the end of the show: something about the need to get up early for tomorrow's parade might have been part of that decision. I dunno. I'm sure traffic would have been lighter if we waited another hour, but I'm pretty sure that I would have been far less alert, so it was probably a good call to head home.

Seems like Wayne got a four-track mix-down of the Saturday gig posted on the live music archive already; I'm gonna guess that the Sunday gig will show up soon too, but don't blame me if you get a 404 following that URL!
