Notes

In retrospect, it seemed rather odd that SFJAZZ would host a show of Gospel blues tunes from a pair of Jewish performers, but I suppose the venue is exactly right for finding a quiet audience of good listeners willing to participate in the expressions of sorrow and devotion that charge these tunes with spirituality. I would have liked to hear another twenty or thirty minutes, but the early shows at the lab are never very long. I retitled a few of the tunes to match the labeling on the Book of J album; too bad my understanding of Yiddish wasn't good enough to get that lone tune from mid set.
