Notes

After seeing a great show from these guys at Yoshi's last summer, I was all in as soon as I saw this listing pop up in Yoshi's “coming shows” announcements earlier this spring. And apparently, many other folks had the same idea, 'cuz the show was totally sold out, and there were plenty of local musicians in the crowd to listen.

  • Opening with Duke Ellington, then launching into a screaming ABB jam, and then following that up with a bit of Chopin? Nuts!
  • The whole darn show was flabbergastingly good!
  • I would have been happy to enjoy another hour or so of music, but I guess the schedule called for an early night.
  • Thanks to Jeremy for correcting my ABB attribution when I asked him about it after the show!
  • Unidentified #1 is the same as the opening tune from this set at YouTube
  • Just before launching into #2, Jim said something like “Hey Nels, ready to go swimming” … I jotted “let's go swim” in my notes, but that's not exactly what he said, and it didn't really sound like a song title anyways.

Dave Pehling posted a nice interview with Jim as a promo for the gig.
