Notes

Tonight's show was super good. Hopefully one of my pals sitting in the front row got a picture of the setlist so that I'll eventually be able fill in those blanks above!

Allison was super talkative, taking time to chat with the audience between almost every song. Sometimes that can be tiresome, but in the context of hearing her introduce a new album's worth of tunes one-by-one tonight, it was interesting.

The first time that Ben played contra-alto – on Daughter and Son – it was really hard to hear his contribution … there was just too much low-register competition with the rhythm section. Happily, he got a long solo turn at the start of t07, and picked it up again during the Listener.

It was obvious from the stage set-up that there was going to be an extra percussionist playing tonight, but Allison made us wait nearly 45 minutes before bringing out her guest, local drum whiz David Flores. It was definitely cool to hear the rhythmic accents he added to the musical stew, and fun also to see the other musicians cracking smiles or trading startled looks when Flores came up with something particularly surprising.

Malaga and Glitter Wolf were my two favorite tunes of the night.
