Notes

the Forum tonight

We get to the Forum a few minutes after 5 PM and immediately run into various friends from years past. Yay! Good for a quick chat and hugs, then on with the task of finding the entrance line. We end up waiting (first! Kind of!) at a North side floor entrance, but with the usual venue snafu, we're nowhere near first to hit the floor. No matter: early enough to grab a few square feet of space in prime territory, right in the center. Oh yeah! Now it's time to look back and make new friends! Now that I've had time to look around, I realize that almost everyone around is has a CID dancing bear laminate ohh, I get it now: the early entrance crowd beat us. Well duh!

First set we're surrounded by a few too many tall guys, so I spend a fair amount of time bobbing left or right when I want to catch a better view of the band. This is less of a problem than it sounds cuz I'm dancing with my eyes clothes most of the time. In the zone!

As the PA is hung high and wide, we get a strong dose of stage mix, plus a tiny bit of monitor sound from a few short units laid across the front of the stage, pointing outwards. It's not bad, but I could do with more guitar…I guess John must rely more on an in-ear mix. Later on – Saturday night – I realize that my enjoyment may have been impaired by my choice of Ear*Peace HD ear plugs … they do such a great job reducing the overall show volume without introducing any distracting distortion that I forgot to consider their effect. In other words, when I took out the ear plugs, it was plenty loud up front!

The show is decently good. Nothing really super duper mind blowing, but not bad either. Glad to be here!

Kinda surprised when the show wraps up by 11 PM. Must be curfew, eh?
