Notes

The Presidio Theatre was a slight disappointment: while it's been renovated and done up in the best anonymous modern style: great lighting, easy parking, comfy seats, etc; the overall impression I got was that it was devoid of personality and boringly similar to many other new performing arts venues. Will I go back? Sure! But I was hoping for something more distinctive. Baggage!

Anyways, the show was a delight. It certainly helped that I had my choice for best seats in the house in the second row! I'd love to hear more from this set of performers, but I fear this gig was a one-off to celebrate Beethoven's 250th Birthday. Not a bad way to celebrate!

Daniel Hope introduced the encore with a single word: “Beethoven!” Sounded to me like the middle, slow movement of one of the trios. Probably not a repeat of Op. 1, No. 1, Mvt 2 since that one came in at a trifle longer duration (assuming my timestamps are trustworthy data!).

A sad update: RIP Lynn Harrell, May 27, 2020. Here's his NYT obit
