Notes

Super nice weather for April Fooling: temp in the upper 70's with a steady light breeze. Hot in the sun, but not unbearable at this late afternoon time. No particular traffic noise from the highway today – somehow the wind must be blowing it away from us.

The band is still sound-checking when we drive up at 4:30, but between parking, getting our shit together, and saying hello to folks outside, the guys have wrapped things up on that front by the time we get inside.

At least a third of the tables are full already – other folks must be as eager as we are! – and the venue is “full” by the nominal 5 PM show time. The new arrangement, with tables of 3 and 4, instead of only 2's, seems mostly to have brought more folks closer to the stage: from what I can tell without any serious study, the overall capacity hasn't changed much from the 88 of last fall. Maybe it's a rule set by the Marin Health Officer. I dunno.

Phil and the band are onstage earlier than I anticipated – they must be psyched to get on and play – and after only a minute or so, Stu eases us gently into Here Comes Sunshine. Sweet! The guys take their time to push into various nooks and crannies of the tune: no need to hurry just yet.

The show unfolds in that same deliberate fashion over the next 90 minutes, as each tune is stretched out over at least ten minutes. Ain't no rush today!

The tempo picks up a bit with Cumberland Blues, and I can't help but to break out into a bouncy happy dance (think Snoopy from Peanuts). I Know You Rider is a nice treat to wrap things up.

Phil introduces the band, then tells us this is just the first of a full season of shows to come. I'm certain that's welcome news to everybody here! Hopefully we'll all be back again real soon!
