Notes

While both acts on tonight's bill put on great sets, I was also reminded how annoying big GA shows can be: there are just too many idiots out to have a good old party instead of listening to the music.

Figuring that this would be a fairly crowded show, we headed down to the venue with a goal of getting in line about the same time as the doors opened: not psyched enough to go really hard core and wait, but willing to arrive early in order to pick our spot. This proved to be a pretty good move: it was really easy to get neighborhood parking, and the wait to get through vax & security & ticket check was tolerable.

Annoyingly, the Ticketmaster ticket transfer snafu-ed me again: Ting goes in first (of course!), using the ticket I've transfered away, then I get turned down when I try to enter. WTF?? Took a few minutes to get straightened out. Hard to keep cool when you feel like you've done things right and the system doesn't work. I guess the solution going forward is NOT to transfer tickets!

Anyways, the crowd is still pretty sparse once we enter the bowl – certainly we're in the first 1000 tonight – and it's no big deal to find room for the two of us in the dead center sweet spot a few steps up from the pit. I'm surprised that we don't see more people we know – a few acquaintances are here already, but no one to set up camp with. Shoulda tried to get that together in advance!

Something from dinner has upset my stomach tonight: too much Sriracha in my soup? Or the almond milk Ting suggested as an antidote? Who knows. Ting gives me a charcoal pill, and I'm kinda unhappy for awhile, but it eventually starts to do it's thing, and we're early enough that I can go deal with it and not worry about missing the start of the show.

7 PM on the dot and the PA fires up with the walk-on music for Durand Jones & the Indications. The crowd has filled in – the space is somewhere above half full – and happily, most of the folks nearby seem to be into dancing and listening instead of ignoring the opener. This is a good thing, since the sexy R&B of Durand Jones isn't necessarily very loud, so I can hear yackers 20 or 30 feet away, but it's more like background buzz than an in-your-face distraction. They put on a good set
