Notes

I was really surprised to see how undersold tonight's concert was: the big marketing push to attract folks to come see and hear the hot young violinist didn't get much traction locally. My guess is that Davies Has was no more than 20% full at best. It's a shame! I wonder if they considered relocating to someplace smaller (Herbst or SFCM Recital Hall), or just figured it wasn't worth the trouble.

Another anomaly was that the small crowd present wasn't nearly as quiet as the normal group. Lots of tittering, muttering, labored breathing, squeaking and other minor distractions throughout the night – made it hard to keep my attention concentrated in front where it belonged. Ah well, such are the trials of the day!

The performance itself was superb. This pair has obviously worked together to prepare a very fine program, and I heard nothing bothersome in any way from their effort. The opener from Dv was my favorite piece of the night, but every one of the others was interesting and worth listening to. It will be interesting to see how the careers of these two guys develop; I'm glad to have caught their SF premiere.
