Notes

Acting on a tip from an August Hall veteran, we got ourselves together early tonight and made it to the venue around 7-ish in order to be able to claim primo spots for the show. It was kind of cool and drippy in SF tonight, but we were dressed OK for the weather, since it had been much the same at our place up in the Oakland hills. As a nice surprise, it turned out that we knew about a half dozen other folks in line; what with chit-chat and making plans, our line duty time passed pretty quickly.

On entrance, Ting and I made the mistake of picking the security line with the VERY CAREFUL inspection, but aside from the fact that the woman wanted to look into every teensy pocket, there was no harm: just frustration over wasted time. And thanks to our line duty discussion (and the gracious help of fellow fans), that holdup had no bearing on getting to our ideal spots. Three cheers for the bay area music lovers krewe!

Things were kinda dull for awhile, but the downtime allowed for more chit-chat and easy show prep. We were more than ready for action by the time the DJ started up: Tomo spinning for discs for awhile, then DJ Bootleg Bunny … twice as much time to kill before the real action, ugh! Little by little the venue filled up, and the buzz of the crowd got louder and louder: not enough to overcome the tunes blasting from the PA, but together, the two combined to make it hard to hold intelligent conversation. Time to retreat inside my head!

Eventually the band takes the stage, and the roar of the crowd is overwhelming: I guess all that waiting is good for pumping up the excitement. Personally, I would have preferred NOT to be wasting all that time on my feet, but hey, I'm just another cranky old guy.

Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
