Notes

Lots of empty seats tonight – balcony closed, side terraces curtained off, no more than half the remaining seats taken. I felt bad for the band, but David didn't make a big deal out of it. In the setlist above, I've listed the movie sources of these tunes in parenthesis where it wouldn't otherwise be obvious from the title – sort of following the model established by the recurring titling segments in the video presentation that accompanied the music.

Including this gig in a set of cinema or movie-oriented shows was a bit of a stretch – the accompanying films weren't nearly as interesting as the music. Or rather, they failed to engage my imagination enough to stimulate me to make positive comment. It's not that the films were bad, they just didn't add all that much: like window-dressing on a run down old house. Having whined about that, I'll follow up by saying that I thought the music and performance was absolutely superb, especially the playing of Brad Jones and Satoshi Takeishi. And any time Sheryl Bailey started to lean in on her wah-wah it grabbed my attention right quick! I suppose the takeaway for me is to keep my eye out for future shows from this assembly, but to exercises a bit of discretion based on the details of the next program.
